As areas begin shaping their neighbourhood health plans, there’s real value in sharing what’s already working elsewhere. And sometimes it's the simple stuff that can make the biggest difference...

Building on our Better Start Ready Steady School approach, this collaboration will focus on identifying local priorities and how the model can be adapted and implemented across the Pembrokeshire.

Health visitors are a cornerstone of the early years system – often the only universal service with a window into family wellbeing, parental mental health, parent-infant relationships and early child development.


In a session focusing on professional practice, Better Start presented 'Building Systems for Communication Success: Health Visiting and the Super Six' exploring how we are embedding clear Speech, Language and Communication messaging for parents alongside the Health Visiting pathway.

The Better Start Engine Room has existed in Blackpool for over a decade, actively driving innovation, delivery and the system change needed to transform outcomes. It has brought together insight, evidence and lived experience to fuel strategic direction, mobilise resources and maintain momentum.

Babies have much to tell us—if we slow down, notice, and hold space to listen. The Think Baby project seeks to honour that perspective.

Working in partnership with Better Start on the development of the 1,001 Days e-learning package has been a hugely positive and valuable experience.

Not just celebrating achievements - though there is so much to be proud of - but holding a shared belief that we can build something different. Something that enables children to thrive from the very beginning.

Figures released by NHS in March 2022 showed that only 63% of eligible families in Blackpool had signed up to the Healthy Start scheme. The campaign saw an increase in uptake of families accessing the scheme from 63% in March 2022 to 76% in March 2024

The accreditation ultimately recognises Blackpool’s commitment to supporting and championing healthier outcomes for babies, parents, and the wider community.
